“That they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days over what He has provided for them of [sacrificial] animals. So eat of them and feed the miserable and poor."

What is the law in executing Ibadah Qurban?
Qurban is the slaughtering of certain breed animal on 10, 11, 12 and 13 Zulhijjah or known as Hari Raya Aidul Adha or Hari Raya Qurban.
The main intention of Qurban is to put yourself closer to Allah SWT. The law of Ibadah Qurban or slaughtering of animal to affordable Islamic people is “sunat muakkad” and leaving it is a “makruh”.
What is the command that require Islamic people to execute Ibadah Qurban?
Narrated from Abu Daud from Anas r.a which means;
“Rasulullah SAW come to Madinah when they are busy celebrating for two days. Rasulullah SAW ask, “What the two days for?” They replied, “We use to celebrate for two days during our ignorance time.” Then Rasulullah SAW said; “Indeed, Allah SWT has replaced those two days with a better day for all of you that is “Aidilfitri” and “Aidiladha””.
Also narrated by Imam Tirmizi and Al-Hakim which means;
Rasulullah SAW said “There is no practice for Adam’s children which Allah SWT likes more during Aidiladha but Ibadat Qurban. Indeed, the slaughtered animal will come during judgement day complete with its horn, fur and nails. Indeed, the Ibadah Qurban is blessed by Allah SWT before the animal blood drop to the earth. So you must be pleased and agree with the Ibadah Qurban that you perform.”

What are the ways or type of Ibadah Qurban implementation?
There are two types of Ibadah Qurban.
The first is Ibadah Qurban “Wajib” or compulsory. Ibadah Qurban “Wajib” is when a Muslim bought a lamb or cow or camel and said “This animal is for Ibadah Qurban”,or “I bought this animal for my Ibadah Qurban”, therefore it is a must or “wajib” for him/her to slaughter the animal as Ibadah Qurban during Hari Raya Aidil Adha or Hari Raya Haji.
The second is Ibadah Qurban “Nazar” or solemn promise. Ibadah Qurban “Nazar” is when someone said “If I manage to get what I want, I will slaughterer a Qurban animal”, therefore it is a must or “wajib” for him/her to fulfil the promise or “nazar”. According to Imam Nawawi ra said that when there is a delay on the intended day for slaughtering the Qurban animal which has been “Nazar” by him/her, therefore it is a must or “wajib” for the person who made the “Nazar” to slaughter it as and when he/she remember it, even though the time has passed.
Who has been suggested to perform the Ibadah Qurban?
Those who has been suggested or command to perform the Ibadah Qurban are:

Can those who perform the Ibadah Qurban consume the meat of his/her Qurban and what is the law said?
The meat for Ibadah Qurban “wajib”, as an example a person make a “nazar” or promise, therefore the law is “haram” or prohibited for the person who do the Qurban “nazar” to eat the meat. The meat for Ibadah Qurban “sunat”, as an example a person perform Ibadah Qurban during Hari Raya Eidul Adha therefore it is “sunat” for them to eat the Ibadah Qurban meat for one time consumption. The balance of the Ibadah Qurban meat is donated to the poor in raw meat. Priority is given to the poor in the family, then to the poor neighbours.
The meat and skin if the animal selected for Ibadah Qurban is prohibited to be sold, because according to “hadis” from Imam Al Hakim said Rasulullah SAW has said which means:
“For those who sell the skin of their Qurban there is no Qurban for them.” It is also cannot be given to the person who slaughter the animal as service fee. The skin of the Ibadah Qurban animal can or “halal” be benefited by the person who perform the Ibadah Qurban, such as making it as a water mug or others.
What type of animals that was allowed to be slaughtered in order to fulfil the Ibadah Qurban?
Type of livestock animal which are allowed to be the animal for the Ibadah Qurban are:

What is the difference between the portions of the animal meat which is selected for the Ibadah Qurban?
There is “hadis” that mentioned about the portions of the animal which are chosen for the Ibadah Qurban. According to “hadis” which was narrated by Imam Al-Baihaqi “Rasulullah SAW eat the liver of the animal chosen for Ibadah Qurbannya”.
What about the physical condition of the animal chosen for the Ibadah Qurban?
The physical condition of the animal chosen for Ibadah Qurban must be perfect. Animal with a broken horn but not to the extent of redusing the animal’s meat, it is legal for Ibadah Qurban. However animal with a broken horn, where the horn is broken until its root and reduce the meat, is not legal for the Ibadah Qurban. Animal with defact ears or tail but still attached or yet to be detached from its original place, is legal for the Ibadah Qurban.
However if it is detached from its body than it is not legal for the Ibadah Qurban.
The gender of the animal is not the condition for a legal Ibadah Qurban. Animal with a male, female or “khunsa” gender is legal for the Ibadah Qurban. Pragnent animal is not legal for the Ibadah Qurban. However a casterated animal can be used for the Ibadah Qurban.
When is the best time to do the slaughtering of the animal for the Ibadah Qurban?
The time for the slaughtering of the Ibadah Qurban begin when Imam or “Khatib” step down from the Mosqur “mimbar” after reading the sermons for Hari Raya Eidul Adha on 10 Zulhijjah until the sun raise on 13 Zulhijjah. Therefore the slaughtering of the Ibadah Qorban animals only for four days in a year that is on 10, 11, 12 and 13 Zulhijjah. Anybody who slaughtered the Ibadah Qurban animal before or after the designated time are not legal for their Ibadah Qurban.
According to “hadis” narrated by Bukhari and Muslim said
“The first thing we do during our day (hari raya haji) is we pray then we go home, then we slaughter the animal. Anyone who do like that are in accordance to our “sunah”. In contras anybody who slaughtered before that, than the meat given to their family does not being considered even a bit being included in their “ibadah” (Ibadah Qurban).”
Is it allowable for someone to appoint others to perform their Ibadah Qurban?
In this subject the law is the same with the law for Ibadah Aqiqah. The deciding factor for this law is based on one life account that said Rasulullah SAW did send animal as a gift (Qurban) from Madinah to Mekah to be slaughtered in Mekah. However, a person cannot perform Ibadah Qurban for other person unless with permission with the rekated person. This rule does not include Ibadah Qurban that was executed for own family members.
Therefore a father can slaughtered animal for Qurban for their son, the same for otherwise, the children can slaughter Qurban animal for mother under their care, even though the mother is not being informed about it.
However a deceased person where during thir life did made a will to do Qurban, therefore their family members must execute the Ibadah Qurban for them. The will is considered as their permission.
Is it possible during the slaughtering of the intended animal for Ibadah Qurban, we intent it together with Ibadah Aqiqah?
It is “sunat” for Ibadah Qurban to be executed during Hari Raya Aidil Adha and Aqiqah is “sunat” to be executed on the seventh day after a child is born. If it is coinside that Hari Raya Aidil Adha with the seventh day a child is born, according to the opinion of the “ulama”, we can combind with an intention of implementing the said Qurban with the intention to do Aqiqah for our child, the same with if Friday clash with Hari Raya, hence we can do both of it with one bath.
Is it possible to share Ibadah Qurban with other people for one cow?
A person is allowed to share up to 7 person or 7 parts for one cow or camel. The proof or “dalil” that allows it is from “hadis” Rasulullah SAW which was narrated by Imam Muslim “During the Hajj season, Rasulullah SAW asked us to perform the qurban 7 person with one camel and one cow.”
Can we donate a sum of money in replacement of animal slaughtering in executing Ibadah Qurban?
The fulfilment of Ibadah Qurban is when the slaughtering of the said animal is carried out and the animal blood is flowed. However other subject, such as it is a Sunnah for someone to consume some of his Ibadah Qurban meat, or keep some of it, or donate with some of it is an additional practice in Ibadah Qurban.
Hense we have noted that giving donation with a sum of money or some of meats which was bought in replacement of the slaughtering of Qurban animal which has been chosen does not conform with the demand for Ibadah Qurban itself, unlike alms or “zakat”, where the intention is to reduce the burden of the poor people.
Which is better between Ibadah Qurban with one goat or one part of one Cow?
In determining which animal is better for the Ibadah Qurban, there are differences in opinion with all the Imam in all Mazhab. This is due to many sources from many “Hadis” which indicate about the advantages for each animal which is allowed for the slaughtering of Ibadah Qurban. In general all agreed that the benefits of slaughtering Qurban is more meaningful if it can be enjoyed by many people, hense as conclusion, animal with more meat can be considered the best or “afdal” from other animal without us determining the type of the animal.
Can one family share one goat to be the animal for Ibadah Qurban?
Sharing one goat to represent one family’s Qurban has been a apractice of Rasulullah SAW and friends or “sahabat”. In one of the “Hadis” Prophet SAW which was told by Ibnu Majah and Tirmidzi, “During Rasulullah SAW period, people slaughtered with one goat for themselves and their family. They eat some and they gave other people until the other people satisfied until they becomes as what you have seen”.
For those who are travelling are they required to perform Ibadah Qurban?
The opinion of all “mazhab”, Ibadah Qurban is still required for those who are travelling, no matter where they are. This matter was brought up to Rasulullah SAW wherenu Rasulullah SAW have slaughtered a cow for Ibadah Qurban in Mina for his wives. Hadis from Bukhari and Muslim.
However, the opinion of “mazhab” Imam Abu Hanifah is that for those who are travelling they are not required to do Qurban becauseit will burden them similar with that they are not required to perform the Friday prayer during travelling.
Can we intent the Ibadah Qurban for our mother and father who have passed away?
Those who have passed away would very much depended on those who are still alive, especially from their family members to continue the good deeds which can increase their good deed to be carried over to the next world. Similar to other donation which is “sunat” to be implemented in order for the rewards to reach the decease, therefore doing Qurban for our mother and father who have passed awat can be implemented according to “mazhab” Imam Hanafi and Imam Hanbali. Let us invoke to Allah SWT to accept our Ibadah Qurban and give the rewards to both of our mother and father.
Can the Ibadah Qurban be implemented for my children who have yet to perform the Ibadah Aqiqah for them?
Ibadah Qurban for children who are still young is the responsibility of their mother and father similar with Ibadah Aqiqah, especially for mother and father who the means and can afford it. If a person have the intention to perform the Ibadah Qurban for themselves then there is no problems, however it is better for the Ibadah Aqiqah to be done first, because Ibadah Aqiqah is being demand upon the mother and father on the child, whereas Ibadah Qurban is only a “Sunnah”.
Which one have to be done first for a small chld, Ibadah Qurban or Aqiqah?
For a small children indeed the Ibadah Aqiqah must be done first from the Ibadah Qurban. It is because:
Ibadah Aqiqah is the responsibility of the mother and father which must be carried out soonest possible.
Ibadah Qurban is an individual sacrifice which being demand in order to get big reward from Allah SWT, however the demand is yet to be on the said chid because they are still young and without any self ability.
However if the Aqiqah day clash with the Hari Raya Qurban, hence it is allowable to intent the slaughtering of Ibadah Aqiqah and Qurbanfor the said child.

Implementing the Ibadah Qurban require a deliberate intention, and couple with obedience feeling to Allah SWT. A person who perform the Qurban must realize that they are implementing an Ibadah requirement which was called Ibadah Qurban. Whereas an Ibadah Qurban which was executed by other people without the knowledge of the second person, therefore it does not give perfectness to the implementation of the said Ibadah Qurban, therefore we cannot carry out Ibadah Qurban for other people without their permission, except for family members.
Is it for someone who perform the Ibadah Qurban have to slaughter thir own animal for the Ibadah Qurban?
The law is “sunat” for male who want to perform Qurban to slaughter their own animal for Qurban with their own hand, if they are able to do it. If they are not able, hence assign for others to do it. From “hadis” narrated by Ahmad dan Muslim, “Prophet SAW have perform Qurban with 100 camel, and 63 of it Prophet SAW slaughter it himselves and the balance 37 was given to Saidina Ali bin Abi Talib AS to slaughter.”
Can a person assign other people to claughter the Ibadah Qurban animal on their behalf?
The original law on slaughtering animal for Ibadah Qurban is “sunat” to be done by the person who perform the Qurban. However, those who are not able to do themselves it is more “afdhal” to assign it for others to slaughter their Ibadah Qurban’s animal for their behalf.
Is it possible that we eat the meat of our own Ibadah Qurban?
The religion has allowed us to eat some of our own Ibadah Qurban animal meat. According to the opinion of many “ulama”, we are allowed to eat one third of the said Ibadah Qurban meat.
Can we sell some of the meat from our Ibadah Qurban animal?
The purpose we carry out the Ibadah Qurban is to bring ourself closer to Allah SWT through Ibadah Qurban with intention to made donation and fulfil the Islam religious requirement, not sacrificing something for our own interest. Sellinf the animal skin of our Ibadah Qurban is prohibited by Islamic religion, because it go against the true intention and purpose of the Ibadah Qurban is carried out, and it is also in line with one of hadis Nabi SAW which was narrated by Hakim; “Whoever sell the skin of their qurban hense there is no qurban for them.” However, based on the opinion of Imam Abu Hanifah, the animal skin of the Ibadah Qurban can be sold and the proceed are donated or use it to buy household goods.
Can we give some of the Ibadah Qurban meats or animal skin from the Ibadah Qurban as a fee to the person who do the slaughter?
In this issue Islam does not allow us to pay fee to the person who do the slaughtering of the qurban animal with the meat or the skin of the slaughtered animal. Therefore somebody must pay the fee from other means of their own. This is in accordance with “hadis” Nabi SAW from Saidina Ali RA “We gave fee to the person who do the animal slaughtering from the portion that belong to us.” Hadis narrated by Bukhari and Muslim.
What is the best way to distribute the Ibadah Qurban meat?
For the distribution of the Ibadah Qurban meat, the group that is given priority are the poor from our close family members, then the poor from our nearest neighbours. Cannot be given to the poor where the religion is not Muslim. However it is a “Sunnah” for us to eat the liver of the Ibadah Qurban animal, because according to Al-Baihaqi, “Rasulullah SAW eat the liver of his qurban.”
And Allah SWT also command the person who do the Qurban to eat some of the meat, in accordance to decree from Allah SWT in surah al-Hajj, verse 28; which say “That they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days over what He has provided for them of [sacrificial] animals. So eat of them and feed the miserable and poor."
Can we give the Ibadah Qurban meat to the non Muslim?
The objective and intention we do Qurban is cler, among others as a thankfull for Allah SWT gifts which was given to us over the year, and giving other people to taste the same gift from Allah SWT, and foster close relationship among the same people. Ibadah Qurban will only be achived by slaughtering the specific Ibadah Qurban animal, during a specific day, with the spill of the blood from the slaughtered animal, then the Ibadah Qurban is fulfilled. Therefore, the slaughtering must happen with only one intention that is Ibadah Qurban. However, there are opinion in “mazhab” Syafie that say sharing one part in one cow of Ibadah Qurban with a different intention is allowed, each person received their own share.
Can we share money RM to buy a goat for the Ibadah Qurban and what is the law?
Islam has put a condition that one goat can be made as a slaughtering animal for Ibadah Qurban for only one person, whereas those who have bought one goat for their Ibadah Qurban by sharing the money, therefore they only received benefits of sharing one goat for the Ibadah Qurban. However after the slaughtering of the animal, the benefits or “pahala” is only for the person where their name is registered to the animal slaughtered for the Ibadah Qurban.
